Hi Guys,
Zanzibar have been on my wish list for a long time, but was never a priority. On the last November I decided for this trip. Did I like there? I would say yes. Would I fly on Zanzibar again? Definitely no! …. Or who knows
Zanzibar is a very beautiful green island, with wonderful white beaches and palm trees – a real paradise. Nevertheless, this paradise cannot be compared to the Maldives. It’s Africa and unfortunately the poverty is so big that makes sad.
In itself, Zanzibar is a fairly expensive island. The prices are relatively high for the tourists.
I lived in Matemwe – the place is in the northeast of Zanzibar, in a pretty cool Hotel – KENA BEACH Luckily the hotel was not full at all. We were a maximum of 10 people every day. In the first few days it was a bit strange for me to be almost the only guest. Then I just enjoyed it Why I have chosen this hotel? Because the Diving Base SCUBAFISH were situated there.
Sooooo, the main reason for my trip was – diving. The best spot for diving in Zanzibar is Mnemba Island. On the diving base I was able to train with Petra and Joris for (AOPW). The both of them are really excelent instructors. I felt very comfortable there, enjoyed every moment and got a lot of experience – wether nice sunny days and also on the stormy days with really big waves. I have feld extreme current underwater, where I thought I was going to die . I saw great diving spots around Mnemba. On the end I really became kind of professional – the 7 days with two dives per day and sometimes up to 40 meters depth helped to accumulated much more experience. Thank you so much SCUBAFISH Team! I had really a lot of fun!
On Zanzibar you can go on various trips as well but I found them extremely expensive. For example, a combined package for Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park and Stone Town(capital of Zanzibar) costs $ 160. There are no group excursions, only private tours with a driver. That is why the prices are so high…. If I booked with one of the Beach Boys I would pay around $ 110 – which I still find too high. Basically the trips were pretty cool, in Jozani Forest I saw Red Colobus Monkeys, you can only see these monkeys in Zanzibar. The Mangrove Forest was also worth seeing. The Stone Town – is a quite big and pretty city. But as soon as you have white skin, the prices are higher than in Europe…. Since I was traveling alone with my driver, I felt very uncomfortable
It was completely different at the Kena Beach Hotel; I felt so good there, everyone was so friendly and helpful and I met wonderful people there: Sarah, Elisabeth, Hishma. Together almost every evening we took long walks on the beach And just had fun I didn’t feel alone at all there. I really miss everything
