Hi Guys,
The Maldives have always been my dream; at least for the past 15 years or so … In June 2018 I finally booked a trip On the end October 2018 I started my trip … Since November I am home …. Was it worth?…. Yasss, it was the best two weeks of holidays I ever had!!! I was sooo free and yes, it’s really a paradise there!
Why did I choose Hanimadhoo Island? Because it’s not a typical resort island. The island is inhabited by locals and therefore it’s possible to get to know the real Maldivian life. Another advantage for me was that I didn’t had to watch a wedding every single day – by the way, not a single one … And there were plenty of other solo travelers, like me … so you didn’t had the feeling, like you were alone there, and I met a lot of nice people. One more reason was…. to get more simplicity… I am really tired from the luxury world… That’s why I opted for the Bare Foot Eco Hotel. This is a really cool hotel … Can I write something about the hotel in two words? … hmmm … The value for money was brilliant and the hotel was simple but has it’s PEPP. Google it … You will be surprised! I enjoyed it so much that I fly there again in March Yeah, it’s crazy
Everyone told me that after a week on the Maldives I will be bored… Hmmmm, that depends on what you do … I barely had time to stay on the beach and do nothing I had a quite tight schedule … In the morning I went for yoga, then – during the first week – on different snorkeling trips every day and in the second week I snorkeled and started diving. Yes, finally my dream has become a hobby. After some bad experiences in previous holidays, I did’t wanted to dive anymore. But thanks to Luca – the Diving Instructor of the Bare Foot – I tried again and became a Scuba Diver Yeah, I’m totally crazy about diving and it’s the main reason why I want back on the Maldives – I want to dive I need warm water and my Luca instructor
I also got to know the 16-year-old local boy Eiman at the hotel and visited his family in the village Yes, the conditions for living are extremely different, but they do not know anything else and they are all so happy and satisfied … you definitely need NO Gucci and NO Prada to be happy In some moments I was a bit shy about my consumption
There are about 2000 people living in the village of Hanimadhoo, but I felt that there are only 100 people in total … There are 2 supermarkets … quite small, about the size of a living room Also a school, police, airport and hospital … A few coffees and … incredible amounts of plastic waste … everywhere!!! That’s a disadvantage on a local island. As soon as you walk out of the hotel, there is plastic garbage everywhere. I think that’s a shame … people could at least collect the plastic and not just throw it on the ground …. Unfortunately, people do not understand that and do not know that they live in a paradise.
Now my entire consumption goes into the procurement of a diving equipment and in March it starts again! See you soon Maldives!
PS: Before I went home, I decided to visit Male – the capital of the Maldives. This has convinced me Aini – the girl at the reception … and it was a good idea … You can then read about this in my next post
