Hi Guys,
My today’s post is about Jakarta. I didn’t plan to visit Jakarta at all, it just happened – one evening I got a brainstorm on the beach of Bali; maybe because I like big cities so much I googled some pics and for cheap flights and the decision was taken …
I’ve never been in a big city in Asia and the pictures of Jakarta at Google have really convinced me because everything was so mega spontaneous, I didn’t read much about the city … well, that was not so smart
Immediately after my arrival in Jakarta, I had almost a nervous breakdown … The hotel was a mess A few hours later I had fortunately clarified everything, canceled and rebooked and could enjoy the night in a reasonable hotel.
The next day I started exploring the center of Jakarta. And here the adventure has truly begun. Jakarta is a very Islamic city and for local I was, well lets say, dressed quite funny It took some time until I realized that I probably was the only European woman in the center of Jakarta … you don’t have to be a Hollywood Star to get a lot of attention That was a strange experience But I got to know the nice Fristy , while taking pictures
If you want to see a big asian city without any tourists Jakarta is the perfect place. Looking back, it was a great experience, but there it was pretty hard … In Jakarta everything works different or just not all. It is incredibly dirty, almost nobody speaks or understands English and if you explored cities mainly on foot (like me), you discovere some really disturbing places. They nice places remain in memory … Funny trashbins in parks, the National Museum and Monument and cheerful people – but honestly: I have never felt so alien before at any other location in the world.
I was glad that my hotel had a great Spa where I was able to pull back into a world familiar to me – so I had some relaxing moments in this strange world
